WEDDING BELLS
McKENZIE—GROVER V A very pretty wedding- of local interest, was that of Miss Jeanne' daughter of Mr and Mrs D. Grover, Waimana, to Mr W. McKenzie, son of Mr and the late Mrs McKenzie, of Hamilton. The Waimana Church was beautifully decorated for the occasion by friends of the bride, with white roses and shasta daisies and Arum lillies. The Rev. Nummy, of Taneatua, officiated, and Mr . Alan Bell played the wedding music. While’the' register was being signed Mrs T. Burke song “Because.” , The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, wearing a charming bridai frock of white tulle . and all-over lace, over white taffeta. The skirt was of tulle and made full; the bodice of lace, made,; with long sleeves and a sweetheart 1 neckline was finished? with, a peplum at the waist. The daiiity tulle veil, was embroidered with silk flowers and was held in place with ( a topknot of white roses. A neckline of pearls was worn, and an heirloom brooch of diamonds and pearls. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet of white rosebuds, Carnations ; and maidenhair fern. - > '
The Matron of Honour was Mrs McGillivray, a x sister of the bride. She, together with Miss M. Grover, another, sister, and Miss Lois Moore, who were bridesmaids, were frocked alike in long dresses of mist blue, self-figured cloque. The bodices were fashioned on slimming lines with three-quarter sleeves, whilst the back Was finished with tiny self-covered buttons. The sweetheart neckline, sleeves and,, the bottom of the full skirt were trimmed with rickalei. Juliet caps of flowers, including pink carnations and sweetpeas, daintily completed the outfits. The trio carried lovely bouquets of shaded pink' rosebuds, carnations and fprn. As the bridal couple left the church, a;white hoi’se shoe, made of flowers, was presented to the bride by a tiny girl.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr Bond as best man, with Mr Roach and Mr McKenzie as groomsihen.
A reception was held in the Waimana Hall, where about 300 guests were received by Mrs Grover, who' wore a smart black ensemble relieved with cream and black accessories. A lovely spray of pink roses and*, carnations Was worn on the coat lapel. Mrs McKenzie, stepmother of the bridegroom, assisted Mrs Grover. She wore a beige frock, fur coat and navy accessories and a dainty spray of pink carnations., The many friends of the bride, had decorated the,hall with lovely spring flowers and. greenery, whilst the bridal table was decorated with silver vases of pink sweetpeas and carnations. The many smaller tables arranged in the body of the ■ hall, were decorated with vases of iceland poppies.
The beautiful three-tiered wedding cake held pride of place on 'the bridal table. The toastmaster was Mr J. L. Burnett, who proved as usual, most capable ‘in that position. All the usual toasts were duly honoured. While the cake was being cut, Mrs Burke and Miss Colle'en Brirke sang duets ' entitled “Always,” and' “I Love You Truly.” The best man read'a large sheaf of telegrams and cablegrams, all conveying best wishes and congratulations. The bridal couple were the recipients of many beautiful wedding gifts and numerous cheques. Mr and . Mrs McKenzie later left for a holiday to be spent touring the South Island. The bride travelled in a becoming suit of delphinium blue i with black accessories.
