EXTRA RATIONS
GRANTED FOR XMAS
The release of an extra halfpound of butter against each ration book during December has been announced by the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan. “This additional allowance which was made at the same time last year, is to enable the housewife to do her Christmas baking,” said the Minister. “It will be available against the cancellation of butter coupon No. 8 in the new ration book, which for this purpose is declax-ed valid for eight ounces of butter from December Ito December 24. Consumers are to purchase the butter where they are registered and retailers may claim the increased amount in respect of their registered customers in the usual way.” An adjustment in the coupon value of spring lamb was also announced by the Minister.
“For rationing purposes, the coupon value of spring lamb is in accordance with the prices set out in a price order coming into force each year on January 1,” said the Minister. “This means that the coupons necessary to purchase lamb between now and the end of the year will be less than the actual price, and it will thus be placed within the reach of the ordinary household ration.”
The Minister indicated that increases of $d in the general meat ration and 3d in the children’s ration would again be authorised for Christmas week and at the same time the dates on which all coupons fell due would be advanced as in previous years.
