TAX CONCESSIONS @lll dwertime -kv; and Profit Scaring —an Incentive to Increased Production! % Increased production, alone, can raise the living standards of the people your living standard. The National Party will remove penalties against production in the form of excessive Income Tax and Wages Tax on overtime payments, and attaches the greatest importance to the promotion of schemes which will help create more goods and services for the people. x With this end in view, Profit-Sharing will be encouraged in every way possible. One seldom hears of industrial trouble where profit-sharing operates. The National Party wholeheartedly supports profit-sharing, co-partnership, co-operation and progress, and will see that tax on overtime does not exceed taxation rates on normal wage income. < PROFIT-SHARING: The National Party, to stimulate production of goods, will exempt from income tax, for a period of 3 years, extra earnings received by workers from approved Profit-Sharing schemes. If this experiment proves successful, it will be continued. INDUSTRIAL HARMONY: Goodwill and understanding among all engaged in industry—-employer and employee alike —can assure prpgress and plenty for all. The New Zealand worker is not a trouble-maker; he recognises tlie necessity of doing an honest day’s work for a fair day’s pay. This precept of a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work, and harmony and goodwill between employer and employee, are two of the guiding principles of the National Party’s Policy. RE-ORGANISATION OF DEPT. OF LABOUR: / The Department of Labour will be reorganised, and a trained staff established, to promote this harmony in industry. Expert advice on industrial architecture, modern methods of lighting, heating, ventilation, health and safety measures will be made available to employers. Similar advice on schemes to promote individual efficiency, with commensurate rewards, and safety precautions, will be made available to workers. Machinery will be provided to examine the causes of unrest and to bring representatives of contending parties together before troubles develop. The Labour Department will help in working out schemes for profit-sharing, payment by results, premium bonuses and co-part-nership. NO COMPULSORY LEVIES FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES: The National Party will abolish compulsory levies on workers, and employers, for Party political purposes. NO COMPULSORY DEDUCTION OF UNION FEES FROM WAGES: There is an old saying that “stop payment is no payment”. Compulsory deduction of union fees from wages will be definitely and completely abolished. m sssss mfi lifllfllll HP m SBS if 1 S. G. HOLLAND, M.P. Leader of the N.Z. National Party
