Army Uniforms

A new Army order which will restrict the wearing in New Zealand of sei'ge uniforms to officers of the rank of colonel and above is anticipated. The order will be in line with the dress regulations issued for the British Army, under which serge uniforms are worn only by those with the rank of major-gen-eral and upwards. Under the amendments to be introduced in the Dominion, battledress it is stated, will be the recognised uniform for ranks below colonel, but some form of blue uniform will be approved for off-duty purposes. The wearing of New Zealand flashes, unit patches and service chevrons are to be discouraged as service ribbons now indicate overseas service.
