Birthday Toast Honoured

An unexpected pleasure at the Druid gathering to farewell Mr and Mrs J. J. Gattsche last Monday evening was the announcement that the occasion was also the birthday of both Mesdames IT. M. Carter and J. Mullins. The gathering promptly did honour to both these ladies bydrinking their health, and rendering especial musical honours.

Horned Monster

Wide-eyed fishermen scrambled ashore at near-by Swan Lake (Michigan) at dusk recently to report sighting of a “horned sea-monster with a long tail,” states the Christian Science Monitor. The “sea-mon-ster” proved to be a black cow, which had leisurely swum a half mile into the lake, returned to shore and wandered back home to Carl Ferris’ farm.

Ohope Spotlight Gaiety scored a big success at the Cabaret on Saturday night when numerous parties in giving vent to their feelings, made pleasant conditions for all present. Seen celebrating an after wedding party, a particularly smart set revealed Mr and Mrs B. Butler, Dr. and Mrs Maaka, Lt. and Mrs Allen (Auckland), Mr and Mrs D. Morpeth, Mr and Mrs, Theo Brown, Misses Pixie Appleby, Nola West, Jean Armstrong, Ngaire Alexander and Minnie Patterson. Also dancing their last evening when musical honours were accorded them, Mr and Mrs J. J. Corbett were centred amidst a gay cirele including Mr and Mrs Whittaker, Mr and Mrs Robinson, Mr and Mrs Hay, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Bennett and Mrs Brown (Auckland). Others dancing were Mr and Mrs C. Francis, Nancy and Alethia Goldsmith, Jeannrae Lodge, Marion Duncan, Pam Gartshore, Jean Warren, Ngaire Eivers, Hazel Thomason, Patty Hancock, Olive Shedlock, Cecily Dawson (Rettorua) and Elva Clark.
