EASTERN BAY’S CONTRIBUTION
APPRECIATIVE LETTER
A letter of appreciation has been received by Mrs J. Winstone, of Whakatane, Secretary of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of the Red Cross Society, forwarded on through the Waikato Centre, from the Ministry of Food, London, expressing thanks for the contribution to the Food For Britain campaign, of the Eastern Bay, as a direct result of which, a further C 47 cases of foodstuffs and soap have been received in England. The letter continues as follows: —
“This very welcome gift will be distributed under the Ministry’s Overseas Gift Scheme. About 30 per cent, will be sent to hospitals, orphanages and similar chaiutable institutions, and the remainder will be sent to local authorities for distribution to old age pensioners and other infirm and needy folk who, through force of circumstances, are unable to -stand in queues, or supplement their rations through being able to afford to take meals in restaurants or eligible to use industrial canteens. In this way, it is hoped to reach those most in need,' with no part of the U.K. receiving a greater share than another.”
