LIKELY SOURCE OF OIL
EAST AFRICAN PEANUTS
Arthur J. Wakefield, head of the team of experts appointed by the British Government to explore possibilities of mass production of ground nuts (peanuts) in East Africa as a contribution to world supplies of oils and fats, said here that he was “very pleased” with the results of an eight weeks’ tour of investigation, states an American exchange.
A special consideration in the inquiry was the possibility of producing 400,000 tons of ground nuts from 25,000 acres within- five years in Tanganyika. Various potential areas were thoroughly investigated in the southern highlands and in the south and central provinces, and southern -and northern Rhodesia were also visited.
