MR W. SULLIVAN’S MOVEMENTS
TO A' TOA AND WAIOEKA MEETINGS
Continuing his election campaign, the National candidate for the Bay of Plenty, Mr W. /Sullivan, addressed three meetings in the Whakatane district on Tuesday. The first meeting in the afternoon at Toa Toa was attended by a good gathering of electors, and. Mr Sullivan mainly confined his address to questions and answers. By this method a wide variety of subjects was dealt with. ■ . Later in the afternoon, Mr Sullivan spoke to an attendance of over 70 Waioeka residents on the question of farmers’ stabilisation accounts. At the conclusion of his address a vote of thanks was moved by Mr Parr, and seconded by Mr McCallion.
Forestry Workers Addressed
In the evening Mr Sullivan addressed what he considered the most successful of the day, although the audience numbered only, 25. .. The meeting, was held in the Matahina Forest schoolhouse and the audience represented 80 pier cent, of the settlement’s population. Again Mr Sullivan covered a wide field which included the desirability of acquiring more heavy tractors for forest work. Mr Sullivan stressed that heavy machinery of this type was imported from the United States, and that present control and supply shortages would not allow expansion. He said that the National Party would make every effort to increase the imports of such machines, which were badly needed throughout the country. After the meeting the speaker expressed his surprise at the sound grip on current affairs that the forestry workers had. ■ Questions that had been asked of him from the floor included such abstruse subjects as the stei'ling funds in Britain and some of the finer points in international finance.
'At the conclusion of the meeting a unanimous vote of confidence in the candidate and his party was passed. . \
