Arrival of Winterset Australia's ' leading Steeplechaser, Winterset, has arrived at Te Rapa, where he will be trained bj'- A. Winder.
The Record ' The Australian record for most wins in any one season is held by Ajax, Phar Lap and Desert Gold, 14 each, with Gloaming 13 next on the list.
A Proposed Match The Brisbane Amateur Turf Club has offered to stage a match between Bernborough and Shannon, over a mile, with a stake of £SOOO.
On Easy List Southland's brilliant galloper, Irish Note, was highly assessed for the Harcourt Stakes, but on account of a filled foreleg he was withdrawn.
Training on Well Golden Souvenir, the New Zealand Cup favourite, is training on satisfactorily at Riccarton, and should be in fine trim on the eventful day.
Cup Top Weights The heaviest weights carried to victory in the Melbourne Cup, of two miles, were by Carbine 10.5, Archer 10.2 and Poitrel 10.0.
The N.Z. Cup The N.Z. Cup has never been won twice by the same horse. Last year Golden Souvenir was victorious. He is such a fine stayer and galloper that he is one likely to prove the exception to the rule.
The Stewards' Handicap The St. Boswell—Mona Lisa horse Da Vinci, trained at Hastings, is undergoing a special preparation for the Stewards' Handicap at Riccarton. Last season he was a successful performer, for in eight starts • he scored four firts and two thirds.
Swift Quarry Resumes Swift Quarry has been re-com-missioned at Te Rapa, is galloping freely on the tracks. In the course of a few weeks he will again be produced with the colours up, and in the pink of racing condition, by the successful trainer, Mrs Sloane.
High Stakes * For its spring meeting on November 16 and 23 the Waikato Racing Club has a programme allotting £10,250 in stakes. The Waikato Cup, one mile and a half, will be worth £ISOO. The Waikato Guineas is included in the programme and will bring out the best of the three year olds.
A Come Back In the winter of 1943 Town Survey was victorious in the Great Northern, Wellington and National Hurdles, the Dominion's three biggest events over the battens. Since then he has performed but moderately, for last season he had twelve starts without even gaining a place. However he staged a return to form recently by winning the Manukau Hurdles, two miles, in very convincing style. Now that the Surveyor gelding has struck form, more victories may be registered for he is a capable jumper and a very fine galloper.
