WINTER SHOW ASSN.

REVIEW OF YEAR

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

At the last meeting of the Bay of Plenty Winter Show Association, the President, Mr H. G. Warren, presented the following report:— "I have pleasure once again in presenting to you my report on the Asociation's affairs covering the past twelve months. Revenue: The Revenue Account shows a profit on the year's working amounting to £57 10s sd, as compared with a loss of £BS lis 9d the previous year, and a profit of £46 2s 7d in 1944. Members' Subscriptions: Members subscriptions continue to fall away and rethink it is imperative to hold a Show in 1947 in order to induce members to continue to subscribe to the funds. Strong representations, if necessary, must be made to the authorities for electric power. The reason that a Winter Show was not held in 194§ was on account of the acute power shortage. Show Building: During the year an enquiry was made by a private firm for the purchase of the Show Building. After giving the matter careful consideration your executive decided that it would not be in the interests of the Association, or the district generally, to dispose of the building. Amalgamation: The matter of amalgamation with the Agricultural and Pastoral Society was again introduced. The proposal was favourably received by the members of our sister Society and a combined committee consisting of Messrs. H. G. Warren, A. Hall, A. J. Canning (representing the Winter Show Association) and W. G. Howat, I. B. Gow, G. R. Yeoman (Agricultural and Pastoral Association), together with their respective secretaries (Messrs. C. A. Head and T. R. Harland) was set up. The committee, with Mr W. G. Howat as chairman, has proceeded a long way on the road to its objective. The members of the Domain Board have proved most helpful and a suitable site for the Show Building, facing Short Street, has been agreed upon. The only obstacles yet to be overcome appear to be sufficient land tenure and finance. These are not considered difficult to surmount. It is felt, however, that it would not be possible to transfer our building in time for the next Winter Show. The subcommittee hope to report back to their respective Associations for confirmation of the final arrangements in the near future.

Finally, although circumstances have prevented us from holding an exhibition, I feel that we have made progress during the. year. We have now reached the stage when we must make another strong, forward move, and in my opinion a Winter Show should be held in the coming year.

I take this opportunity of thanking Mr C. A. Head, our secretary, and the executive for their able assistance during the past year."
