LABOUR DAY SHOOT

ROD AND GUN CLUB EVENTS

The newly-formed Whakatane Rod and Gun Club held- its first Open Shoot over the Labour weekend and although the weather was against it on Labour Day a very successful two days'' shoot took place.. Shooting on both"'days was of a high standard and "possibles" were numerous.

One of the most-outstanding features was the shooting of the "possible" in; the £25 Open Handicap by the Bay veteran shooter, Mr Walter Semmens, who has been Clay Bird shooting for over 50 years..

Although hand traps- were used over 3,500 targets were thrown on the two days and the percentage of. broken targets thrown was very small. A careful check was kept on the second day and less than .03 per cent, were thrown broken.

Shooters from Hamilton, Tauranga, Te Puke, Rotorua,' Opotiki, Taneatua, Galatea and Te Teko were-, present and a general opinion was expressed that the Whakatane Club's grounds were possibly the best in the North Island.
