WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT MATATA

The usual monthly meeting of the Matata Women's Institute was held on the 23rd. ins't. Mrs Caverhill, vice-president, opened the meeting by welcoming members and friends and expressed the wish of all members that the president, Mrs Rolfe Withy, would soon be well enough to resume her duties. Delegates were appointed for the Bi-annual Council meeting and were instructed as to the voting on the various remits. The afternoon's entertainment was very amusing. Each member was requested to tell a humorous story and many and varied were the stories told. The impromptu speeches were also well done. Results of the competitions were as follows: Best Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Withy 2, Mrs Parkinson 3. Nemesia, Mrs Magee 1, Mrs Taylor 2. Iceland poppies, Mrs Taylor 1, Miss Burt 2. Best vegetable, Mrs H. Withy 1, Mrs Taylor 2. Print apron, Mrs Smith 1. Marmalade, Mrs Parkinson 1.
