The Whakatane, County Council, at its last meeting, decided that the road royalty should not apply to timber carted for firewood." "Firewood," commented Cr " McCready, after the resolution had been carried, "is a tough enough proposition already, without making it any tougher." !
Dog Registration At the last meeting of the Whakatane County Council, the Inspector's (Mr A. Carling) report indicated that 243 dogs had been registered during the month, bringing the total to 2,695. With dog regis-, tration now almost complete, the fees paid into office amounted to £5lB 4s. : :

Xmas Lamb
Residents and others passing in Domain Road during the weekend were among those who witnessed the rather unique sight of a lamb wandering complacently along the footpath all on its own. Strangely enough, its fleece was white as snow, and on closer inspection was found to be of the best quality wool. There was no sign of Mary anywhere. Very bold, the lamb apparently was not aware of the approach of Christmas!
