These disorders may be lessened and the Department of Agriculture will provide information relating to the recognition and control of such diseases... the first step ' to healthier herds and increased production. At the first sign of any disease in your herd contact your nearest office of the Department of Agriculture. Mt* mean St* Milk fever generally affects heavy producing cows in high condition. To help lessen the risk of milk fever rationing of spring pastures for such cows prior to calving is a wise precaution. Mastitis causes greater loss to butterfat production than any other herd disease. In New Zealand the life of a cow depends largely on her ability to resist mastitis. Cleanliness and quiet handling will assist in the prevention of mastitis.
