WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

EDGECUMBE GARDEN PARTY

Beautiful sunny weather favoured the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute Garden Party held at the residence of Mrs Crang. There was a very good attendance of members and friends, and an entrance fee charged resulted in a satisfactory amount being collected for the Leper Benefit Fund.

With Mrs Shaw presiding remits for the Federation Conference were fully discussed and voted upon. Mrs Shaw and Mrs Spiers were chosen as delegates. Entries for the A. and P. Show were also discussed. Mrs Shaw then called on Mrs Spiers to accept a gift from members, for the honour Mrs Spiers had brought to the Institute in producing the winning play in the recent Drama Festival. Mrs King on behalf of the cast presented Mrs Spiers with a beautiful bouquet. Birthday posies were presented - to several members.

An Institute Library Service was discussed and many members promised good books whilst Mrs King it was intimated would be in charge of the service. The l’est of the afternoon was devoted to games and a delicious afternoon tea. Mrs Burgess was the winner of a Ping Pong ball game, and Mrs J. Russell won the Ladder Golf.

At the conclusion of the games, two competitions for Institute funds were drawn. Mrs Thomson was declared the winner of the tatted collar and Mrs Manson the winner of the rooster. A very pleasant afternoon was brought to a close with a sincere vote of thanks to Mrs Crang for the use of her lovely garden. Monthly competition results were as follows: Silver beet, Mrs Burgess 1; Mrs Pettrce 2. Cut lunch, Mrs King 1; Mrs Pearce 2; Mrs Teasdale 3. Tulip, Mrs Teasdale 1; Miss Wilson 2; Mrs 11. Carter 3.
