PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS

TOUR OF COLONIES A ,blind man is a member of a delegation consisting of two representatives of the National Institute for the Blind and one of the Colonial Office which has left London on a tour of the British Colonies, including Uganda, Tanganyika and the Gold Coast. Their itinerary will also include Egypt, Palestine and Cyprus. The purpose of the.tour is to advise on the prevention of blindness and on the development of welfare services for the blind. The blind delegate, Mr J. F. Wilson, was trained through certain of the organisations which during the tour he will help to extend. A committee consisting of representatives of the Colonial Office, the Institute for the Blind, and St. Dunstan’s was set up in 1943 to inquire into means for the rehabilitation of war-blinded people in the Colonies, and possibly also the civilian blind, and for the training of blind children and prevention of blindness. The tour is the outcome of that inquiry.
