FURTHER TRIBUTE

LATE MR G. A. BRABANT JUSTICES & LEGAL PROFESSION A further tribute to the passing of Mr G. A. Brabant, was the gathering in the Courthouse last Wednesday of members of the legal profession, Justices of the Peace, Police and the Press, which was convened by the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, as a gesture to a citizen of worthy memory, who had enjoyed the distinction of being the town’s first Mayor, as well as its senior Justice. Mr Barry referred to the numerous local bodies upon which the late Mr Brabant had served, and particularly to his court work where as a J.P. he had ever been fair and impartial when he presided on the bench. He moved that a letter of deep sympathy be despatched to his bereaved family. Those associated with the gathering were Messrs. F. Prideaux C. S. Armstrong, J. King, W. J. Mulholland and C. H. Christensen, Justices of the Peace; R. F. Smith, C. A. Suckling, and G. Otley (legal profession); T. Morgan (Clerk of Court) and C. Kingsley-Smith (Press). Speaking for the legal practitioners, Mr R. F. Smith said that the late Mr Brabant’s record as a J.P. was probably unique, in that he had possibly presided over more court sittings than all the other Justices together. He had left behind him a distinguished record of public duties well and faithfully performed of which his family might well be proud. . Warm tributes to Mr Brabant’s kindly and courteous disposition were voiced by Messrs. Prideaux, Otley, Suckling and Morgan. Mr Barry’s motion was carried unanimously all standing in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of an old friend and colleague.
