AS OTHERS SEE IT

IN eight years Parliamentary broadcasting in New Zealand has been little more than an inconclusive experiment. It has ‘done little or nothing to improve the standard of public speaking and an equal amount to change the ordinary man’s opinions in politics. The experiment has not increased respect for the House. Patriots still squirm while their representatives beguile a 'legislative hour with bad English and limping accent. Though enthusiasts still sit up late, coarser spirits chuckle in their chairs. —Trevor Lane, in the Sydney Morning Herald.
