FIRST FLOWER OF PEACE

NEW DELPHINIUM A war-time dig-for-victory vegetable show arranged by Stratford-on-Avon Home Guard in their drill hall in 1944 has become the biggest show of 1946 in the provinces. The original organisers are still carrying on, and they had to use over 42,000 square feet of tentage on the banks of the Avon. A new. white flower was on view —a snow-v/hite delphinium raised by Mr C. K. Wootton, of Bloxwich, Staffordshire. Mr Wootton also showed a white delphinium with a black centre. There are only two white varieties in commerce in Great Britain. The new delphiniums will not appear on the market for two years.
