Proposed School Pavilion «. At the last meeting of the Whakatane School Committee, members inspected a scale model of the sports pavilion which the committee proposes to erect in the future to serve the requirements of sport and physical training carried on under the school syllabus. The model, which consisted of the framework of the building, was the work of the woodwork instructor, Mr Wylde, who constructed it for use in teaching his classes theory of building construction. The work on the actual building will be undertaken by the trained boys . under the supervision of Mr Wylde. A School Uniform In reply to a question at the last meeting of the Whakatane School Committee as to whether there was any definite information concerning the rumour that the school was to supply caps to pupils,, the chairman (Mr J. W. Wilson) intimated that the whole matter had arisen from a circular received by the pupils from, the Headmaster asking parents to procure if possible, articles of school uniform when purchasing clothes for their children. There was no compulsion attached to it. Actually, he added, the better method would have been to approach some of the local drapers, enquire whether such stocks, were obtainable, and arrange for them to be made available.
An Intermediate School '"“I understand that the establishment oi an Intermediate School is not an automatic procedure, but must be backed of parents, particularly in outside districts, who must be willing to send their children to a central school,” said the- Chairman of the Whakatane School Committee (Mr J..W. Wilson) at the last meeting. Continuing, he said that the committee was looked to for a lead in preparing the ground in this direction. Arrangements had been made for the Senior Inspector of Schools, Mr Merrington, to address a meeting of parents, but as he was not now available, another Inspector, Mr Mills, was to fill his place. A public meeting, he concluded, would be addressed at Awakeri next Monday evening.
