RACING NEWS & VIEWS
The Large and Small The Australian champion, Bernborough, who registered his fourteenth successive victory in Australia, is one of the good big horses being 17 hands 1 inch high. The tallest horse at present racing in this Dominion is 17 hands 2 inches, and he has not yet shown his best card. In America the best three-year-old of the season is Assault, winning over 100,000 dollars this season. This colt is 15 hands lainches in height, so must rank as one of the best of the smallest racehorses in the world.
Bonny Pay’s Winnings The seven-year-old Bonny Pay has now won £6305 in stakes. This English pedigree candidate should increase his total this season unless he has the misfortune to be skittled off his racing track as in the Poland Cup at Paeroa.
On Easy .List The Te Aroha trained Verdant, has been on “the easy list” during the past fortnight on account of having sustained a slight shoulder rick. He may be able to resume track work during the month. Sister to Royal Charter Making her first appearance in public with the colours up at Te Aroha was Mr L. S. Otway’s Foxbridge—Shirred Ribbon filly, Blue Riband, a full sister to Royal Charter. Trained by Alex Cook, at Te Awamutu, she is showing galloping ability.
