RIDING ACCIDENT

YOUTH’S LEG FRACTURED

CRASH INTO POWER POLE A serious accident occurred on the mud-flat at Ohiwa on Thursday, when John Batey, aged 17 years, son of Mr and Mrs G. G. Batey, Kutarere, sustained a fractured leg when the horse he was riding collided with a power pole. The accident occurred at a time when some neighbours were passing on their way into town, otherwise the accident may not have been noticed for some time. -The tide in that place rises five feet, completely covering the mud-flat.

The injured youth was removed to the Opotiki Hospital.

The horse was also severely injured. y
