WOMENS INSTITUTE

WAIMANA-NUKUHOU MEETING SPRING FLOWER SHOW The October meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held last Wednesday in the Waimana Flail. A spring show for members proved successful and entertaining, the flowers and decorative section being of a uniformly high standard. The singing of the W.I. song opened the proceedings. The balance sheet from the last function held for Institute funds showed a credit balance of £lO. Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Wylde were apointecl delegates to attend the biannual Council Meeting to be held at Taneatua in the near future. Mrs R. Martin was welcomed as a new member.

The Golden Thread was read by Mrs D. Bull.

A silver collection for the Leper Appeal resulted in the sum of £3 3s being collected. The monthly letter from Mrs John Addison was read by Mrs Hewitt, Mrs Wylde offering to reply to it. Members donated tins l of milk, tongues, jellies, soap ,etc. for a parcel to be sent to the link in England, and it was later decided to forward one each month.

A flower guessing competition was won by Mrs King and Mrs Stevenson.

The President (Mrs Savage) thanked those who helped towards the two evenings held recently, for Institute funds, and also the workers and exhibitors at the show. The judges, Mrs W. Looney, Mrs Clayton, Mrs L. Looney and Mrs Wells from Waiotahi Institute, were also accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The results of the day’s competitions were: Best single flower, Mrs King 1; Mrs H. Bell 2; Mrs Stevenson 3. Best double flower, Mrs White 1; Mrs H. Bell 2; Miss Woolfield 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs I. Savage 2; Mrs King 3. The following were the awards in the various Show classes:— Cut Flowers

Coat Spray: Mrs Woolfield 1, Mrs King 2, Mrs Stevenson 3. The points prizes were won by Mrs King 1, Mrs Hampton 2. A donation of 3/- was received from Mrs W. Addison for show funds. A very pleasant afternoon closed, with the National Anthem.
