WEDDING BELLS
MACDONALD—SAX A very pretty wedding at -Knox Presbyterian Church, Whakatane, performed by the Rev. H. M. Bell, was that of Claire Milly, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Sax, Whakatane, and Lionel Alexander, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Leslie Macdonald, Buckland.
The bride, who entered the church with her father, was attired in a lovely magnolia satin frock, made with a lace yoke and long lace sleeves, finished with points over the wrist. The round neckline, had half collars coming to a point in front, and the bodice was buttoned at the back from neck to waist. The full skirt was made with bustle effect and the train was daintily appliqued with lace. The beautiful tulle veil was embroidered wi,th lover’s knots and fell from a coronet of orange blossoms. The shower bouquet carried by the bride was of freesias, stock, carnations and maiden hair fern.
The bridesmaids,-Miss Joyce Macdonald, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Colleen Burke, were frocked alike in salmon pink taffeta. The bodices were gathered and trimmed with piping at the neck, the short sleeves were gathered and the skirts were very full flared. Dainty pink shoulder length veils were worn and were held in place with coronets of flowers matching their bouquets, which consisted of pink stock, carnations and blue grape hyacinths and fern. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Jack Sax, brother of the bride as best man, and the groomsman was Mr G. Murray. The reception was held in the Caledonian Hall where about 70 guests were received by Mr and Mrs Sax, assisted by Mrs Macdonald. Mrs Sax wore a black embossed silk costume, black hat and accessories and a pretty shoulder spray was worn. The bridegroom’s mother, Mrs Macdonald, wore a blue wool georgette frock, navy blue hat and accessories and shoulder spray to tone. The wedding breakfast tables were decorated with vases of iceland poppies and linaria, and the beautiful three-tiered wedding cake held pride of place on the bridal table.
The best man read quite a sheaf of telegrams of congratulations. The young couple left later on their honeymoon, the bride travelling in a saxe blue suit, navy hat and accessories to tone.
