WHAKATANE BRANCH ACTIVITIES The monthly committee of the Whakatane Branch of the New Zealand Red. Cross Society was held in the Society’s rooms last Tuesday., A representative gathering of ladies, was present, while an apology from the Secretary who was attending, the Annual Conference was received. Correspondence from Headquarters was dealt with. ,■' Intimation was received from the R.N.Z.R.A. of an appeal for a fund to enable a nurse from a devastated country to take a scholarship, and it was decided to vote the sum of £3 3s towards this.

The President reported that the weekly meetings were still being held, and arrangements for October were completed. It was requested that as many ladies as possible be asked to help. It was hoped to pack and consign the next cases in October. (The ladies present were all engaged upon handsewing garments during the meeting). Food for Britain . A donation of £1 from Mr Willie Wong Wah towards the Food for Britain campaign was received with thanks. It was intimated that a further street stall for this and general funds would be held on September 27, and that contributions should ha solicited without delay.
