Native Kaka

The presence of a native Kaka (New Zealand parrot) in the Domain has been a point of great interest to residents, particularly, the local school children. ' The bird which is a dull bronze in plumage is a fine-looking specimen and was first noticed in one of the gum trees earlier in the week. It was seen again yesterday and may still possibly be seen feasting on the gum blossom. Though plentiful enough in the South Island the Kaka is a singularly rare bird so far north.

Revival of Young Farmers!. Clubs At the Wellington Council meeting of the Young Farmers’ Clubs held in Palmerston North recently, it was reported that there were now 79 clubs in the district. Auckland, however, had 85, and so for the first time headed off the Wellington district. There are no\y altogether 247 clubs throughout 1 the Dominion. Few organisations had to take such a hard knock from war conditions as the Young Farmers’ Club suffered both on account of the age-grouping of its personnel and from the amount of work that had to be performed by those who did not join the forces. There is no more worthy organisation in rural districts than this, and it is pleasing to- see such a strong revival taking place.
