WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

WAIMANA-NUKUHOU MEETING

A very pleasant afternoon was held in the Waimana Hall last Wednesday at the Waimana-Nukuhou August meeting. The proceedings opened with the Institute song, and Mrs Savage read the Motto for the month, “Little Deeds, Little Seeds, May Grow to Flowers or to Weeds.”

There was a good attendance of members and several visitors, Mrs F. J. Savage presiding.

It was decided to hold a Social and Dance on September 16. A Spring Flower Show will be held for Institute members next month at the meeting, and flowers not wanted by members will be sent to the hospital.

Letters were read from. Miss Nada Hewitt written while on board the Mariposa on her way to America, thanking members for the gifts given her, ori the eve of her departure.

Mrs Woolfield also read letters from the Institute link in Rugby, England.

A very full and comprehensive report of the Dominion Conference was given by Mrs Wylde, the report being listened to .with great interest. It was decided to forward a Xmas cake to the English link, and a food parcel each month. Mrs Reuben Looney capably demonstrated the making of sweet baskets.

The entries for the monthly competitions were of a high standard, the result of the judging was as folsingle flower, Mrs Fleming 1; Mrs H. Bell 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. Best double flower, Mrs Stevenson 1; Mrs Litt 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. Best vegetable, Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs I. Savage 2; Mrs Cf White 3. Jar of marmalade, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs F. Savage 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. Iced chocolate sponge, Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs I. Savage 2; Mrs S. Eagle 3.

A delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Savage thanking them and the judges and others who helped during the meeting. The singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
