The three year old Sahib, by Nizami—Queen City, trained at Takanini by C. F. Verner, is showing improvement on her two year old form, and is expected to race prominently at the Avondale meeting. She may be well backed for the Avondale Guineas on the second day.

The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club, which for some years had a lean time financially, has had a welcome change in respect to finances. In the past season a profit of £6845 was shown, and it has decided to place £4200 in its Reserve Fund. A Good Pair Golden Souvenir, the largest stakes winner in the Dominion last season, and Bruce the best three-year-old, trained at Timaru, are being put through strong preparations by L. J. Ellis, in order to compete at the Wellington Spring meeting to be held at Awapuni next month. W. J. Broughton’s Total Since he started riding in 1928 W. J. Broughton has ridden no less than 800 winners.
