Basketball Gala Day

Arrangements for the Basketball Gala Day to be held at the Whakatane Domain on September 14 are well advanced, and the programme promises a lively and interesting day. Town and country are co-oper-ating in a united effort and the various teams entered have each taken a section of duties. The Maori team will be responsible for a hangi, the town teams for morning and afternoon tea, and the country teams for a produce stall. As it has already been intimated the Gala Day is an effort to raise funds for the laying of a permanent hard basketball court at . the Domain. Although the court will be in Whakatane it will benefit the whole district, for country teams will be given every opportunity to use it. During tournaments particularly, it will be found invaluable. Thus, every part of the district is co-operating in the drive for funds, and from present indications, the whole should be an unqualified success.
