Kahikatea for Tender

When the only tender for removal of six millable Kahikatea trees from the White Pine Bush Reserve, offered £8 to the County Council last Friday, members expressed considerable disappointment at the smallness of the sum. Cr McCracken mentioned the existing shortage of White Pine timber and thought that every effort should be made to have the trees milled rather than split up into battens. Other Councillors were of a similar mind pointing out that identical logs were brought all the way from Galatea. It was decided to instruct the engineer to go into the question of having the logs removed to the mill and failing that to call for fresh tenders.
