Maori Friendliness
“Come over here and join us. You look lonely over there all by yourself.” The invitation was extended a Pakeha in a local grill room by a couple of young Maoris last Friday evening. The Pakeha accepted the invitation and thereafter ensued a conversation between the trio as though they had known each other for years. The Pakeha who happened to be a local businessman, noted the unusual freedom whereby his young friends addressed every other passing Maori and was soon included in the conversation much to his own increasing amusement and interest. They parted, the Maori boys dashing back to the theatre to catch the serial, and the Pakeha back to his office to do some unofficial overtime, and to ruminate upon the happy-go-lucky Maori and his friendly methods of getting the best out of life.
