CIVIL AVIATION
EMPLOYMENT FIELD LIMITED
The limited opportunities offering in civil aviation are discussed in a statement received from the Rehabilitation Board, which says that apart from the requirements of the National Airways Corporation, the possibility of employment for quali-
fied aircrew will probably be confined to local air taxi service, aero clubs and private firms. “National Airways Corporation, which will be the largest employer of aircrew in New Zealand, has advised the Board that no aircrew will be required by that organisation for approximately nine to 12 months, as the personnel employed by the existing operating companies are first to be absorbed by the corporation,” adds the statement. “Thereafter, the taking on of additional staff is dependent on vacancies still needing to be filled and also on the rate at which the corporation can expend its operations. “It is also understood that when the corporation does need further aircrew, .the positions will be advertised and the successful applicants put through the corporation’s own course to enable them to obtain the necessary qualifications. “Since other opportunities in the field of civil aviation are particularly limited, the Board is unwilling to assist ex-servicemen to qualify unless there is a definite promise of employment contingent upon the applicant’s qualifications.”
