RED CROSS

EASTERN BAY CENTRE

FINE CORSO RESPONSE

The last meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre of the N.Z. Red Cross was held in the Red Cross rooms on Friday, August 23, at 10.30 a.m. with Mrs W. Sullivan in the chair.

Mrs Winstone reported on Miss Hadfield’s meeting. Twelve schools had been visited. One new Junior Red Cross Circle had been formed since, and Headmasters had promised others. Mrs Sullivan said she had met Miss Hadlield subsequent to her visit here, and she had expressed herself as very satisfied. Mrs Sullivan said a cheque for £IOO would be despatched very shortly to the Waikato Centre, Red Cross to be used in the purchase of food for Britain. Members thought this a very satisfactory sum. Mrs Mexted said the Edgecumbe subcentre had sent a case of tinned food away also. A financial statement from CORSO headquarters was put before the meeting. Whakatane’s quota was £99 but over £IBO had been raised in the district. It was interesting to see that of 132 districts only 19 had fully-—or over—paid their quotas, and of this number 9 were run by Red Cross. CORSO appealed through the Red Cross Headquaters for 10,000 warm undergarments for orphaned children in Greece. The appeal is urgent as it is hoped to send them to reach Greece before the snowy weather, and the committee will be grateful for good used garments, which can be left at the Red Cross Rooms any Tuesday between 1 and 4 p.m. Mrs Winstone was appointed delegate to the Junior Red Cross Con- ■ Terence in Wellington on September 4, on her way to the annual meeting of the Dominion Council in Christchurch. It was resolved that a donation of £5 be sent to the Dominican Red Cross to assist in the recent earthquake disaster. Remits for the annual meeting were discussed, and the meeting concluded at 1.15 p.m.
