TANEATUA SPORTSMEN
ROD & GUN ANNUAL MEETING PRESIDENT’S REPORT The annual meeting of the Taneatua Rod and Gun Club was held recently there being a good attendance of members. Before commencing the business the President, Mr W. Semmens, asked members to stand in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr C. A. Timbs an old and valued member of the club. The president in presenting his report on the activities of the club over the past season stated that four successful shoots had been held. The main shoot of the season was the Bay of Plenty Challenge Cup shoot the cup being brought from Rotorua by the Rotorua Rod and Gun Club. Seven teams competed, the Rotorua team again being successful with Opotiki second and Taneatua third.
The competition for the heaviest trout caught during the season was won by Mr A. E. Cooper, while that for most shags shot went to Mr J. Butler. Both sportsmen received cash prizes. The balancg sheet proved the club to be in a very sound financial position and prospects looked particularly bright for the coming season. The appreciation of the club members was extended to the ladies for the capable and willing way in which they had done the catering for the shoots and to Mrs J. Hayward for making the club flag. In conclusion the president thanked all donors of trophies and the outgoing committee for their cooperation during the season and wished the club every success for the coming year. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows:
Patron: Mr F. Burt (re-elected). President: Mr W. H. Semmens (reelected). Vice-presidents: Messrs. L. Sisam, B. Sladden, J. G. Cliff-McCulloch and A) Mitchell (all re-elected). Committee: Messrs. R. S. Ricketts, W. C. Davies, J. Tebbutt, J. Hayward, T. Barr, D. King, W. Hammond, F. Peebles and J. Butler. Shooting Committee: Messrs. W. Howat, J. Lawn and J. Hassett. Secretary: Mr A. G. Cradwick. Auditor; Mr J. Moody. Mr Semmens exhibited to members a. beautiful and valuable trophy in the form of a silver pigeon. It was unanimously decided that the trophy be called the “C. A. Timbs Memorial. Pigeon.” It was intimated that the trophy would be open for competition to all members of the Taneatua Rod and Gun Club and the conditions for same would be submitted at the opening shoot of the season on Seotember 29.
