Mrs J. E. Winstone leaves for Christchurch on Tuesday next as de-. legate from the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre to the annual meeting of the Red Cross Dominion Council. She anticipates being away for two weeks.
Teachers of the Whakatane District High School, and members of the School Committee gathered recently to bid farewell to Mr J. E. Bigelow, first assistant, who is leaving to take up the duties of Headmaster at Russell Street School, Palmersfon North. Opportunity was also taken to wish the best of luck to Miss Hitchcock, a primary teacher, who is to be married in the near, future. Mi/ I. B. Hubbard (Headmaster) and Mr J. W. Wilson (School Committee Chairman), spoke, expressing in glowing terms the work each, and particularly Mr Bigelow, had performed for the school, and wished the two guests of honour the best of luck for the future. A presentation from the staff was made, and both guests replied suitably.
