ARMY VEHICLES
AVAILABILITY TO EX-SOLDIERS
Replying to Mr W. Sullivan (National, Bay of Plenty) in the House of Representatives, who asked whether he would take immediate steps to make available to trasport operators, returned servicemen and others, motor vehicles now held for disposal, the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) said that the procedure regarding the release, of motor trucks was that trucks declared surplus by the Army were valued by the board of valuers as soon as practicable after the trucks had been placed on the Vehicle Reception Depot. Within seven days after such valuation, the War Assets Realisation Board lists the number and description of such trucks so as to enable them to, be inspected in fulfilment of Government Department requisitions. As soon as this inspection has been carried out, the trucks not required to meet the Government Department requisitions are made available to transport operators. Returned servicemen receive preference in all cases.
