BIG DEMAND IN SYDNEY
STOCK OF CIGARETTES SOLD When a large city store reopened after its wartime conversion, English, Egyptian and Turkish cigarettes were on sale at prices ranging up to nearly 4d each. Egyptian cigarettes retailed at 32s 6d for 100. Tins of 50 sold at 8s 6d, 11s 6d and 17s 6d, according to brand. Early customers considered themselves lucky at being able to buy 2 English cigarettes for 3s 3d. The sale of 75,000 cigarettes lasted three hours.
