“THE PERFECT SOAP”
U.S. NAVY’S COMPLAINT STORY CAN NOW BE TOLD Even soap has its now-it-can-be-told story. A bathtub-ringless soap, produced in Buffalo in powder form, got a bubbling reception from, the U.S. Navy. There was a minor complaint, though. Too much of the powder blew away during gales at sea. To reduce the waste, the Government asked for the soap in cake form. The request was fulfilled. The wind blew. The soap stayed put. And its specifications were listed as “Restricted—Not for Publication.”
The story was told by Eugene J. Hasselbeck, production supervisor of the National Aniline Division, Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation, at the annual initiation banquet of the University of Buffalo Chapter of Sigma XI. in Hotel Lafayette. The cleaning agent, which is developed from petroleum at the division’s Buffalo plant, now is on the retail market in powder form, Mr Hasselbeck said.
