ROAD TRAFFIC
SUMMARY FOR YEAR COUNTY INSPECTOR’S REPORT In his annual report to the County Council, the County Traffic Inspector (Mr A. Carling) stated that a total of thirty-one traffic offenders had been dealt with over the year, and a total of £2B in fines collected. Seventeen of the offenders had been charged with having no current Warrant of Fitness. During the year 1945/46, 2,303 drivers licences had been issued, the fees collected amounting to £574 12s 6d. • This compared with 1945 s figures which stood at 2,110 and £516 2s 6d respectively. Two hundred and seventy-nine tests and extensions had been undertaken during the year, these taking the form of 165 car tests, 56 H.T. motor, 20 motor cycle, 10 road machine, 5 passenger service vehicle, 14 taxi cab, 5 tests over 70 years and 4 duplicate licences.
Eight hundred and thirteen heavy traffic licences for varying periods had been issued during the year, the total fees for these amounting to £3,992 6s Bd. This represented an increase of 12 in number and £lB4 0s lOd in fees. Ninety-seven heavy traffic licences had been collected to the value of £282 3s Bd. Thirty heavy traffic vehicles with loads had been checked and found correct. Seven vehicles had been weighed with loads of timber, and only one had been found to be over the axle load for the road classification, this being due to bad loading of the timber.
The number of heavy traffic licences taken out and the fees collected had continued to show a steady increase.
