WHAKATANE MEN’S CLUB

On Saturday the second qualifying round for the Club Championships will be played. There will be no draw and members are asked to make up their own three. The third qualifying round, which is scheduled on the programme for August 31 will be brought forward a week to August 24.

The Captain’s trophy will be for the best 36 hole nett score in the qualifying rounds. There have been some complaints lately about lack of observance of the etiquette of the game. Players are reminded that they must give way to others playing faster than they are and three-ball and fourball games should at all times give way to pairs. Where a ball is lost if there are players behind waiting to play they must immediately be called through and once having been called through must be allowed to play on even if the ball is found.

In.future on Sunday afternoons four-ball games only may start from No. 1 tee, all other games starting from No. 10. The men’s senior buttons have changed hands twice in the last two weekends, N. Hockin and L. Roach winning them from R. Morpeth and W. Henderson and losing them on Sunday to K. Milne and J. Wright. TE TEKO GOLF LADIES’ WEEKEND DRAW A ; ‘One Club” competition will be played this week. Following is the draw:— Thursday: Mrs L. B. Smith and Mrs Caldwell; Mrs Goodwin and Miss Linsell; Mrs Balfour and Mrs Burr; Mrs Moulden and Miss Murray; Mrs Canell and Mrs Mcßride; Miss Knight and Miss Brooks. Sunday: Miss Walker and Mrs Burr; Mrs Anderson and Mrs Caldwell. The result of the Bogey competition played last week was as follows:—‘B Grade’; Mrs Thomas 10 down, Mrs Moulden 10 down. Mrs Thomas won on the count back. ‘C Grade’: Mrs Mcßride 12 down.
