WEDDING BELLS
DUCKWORTH—MAGEE. A St. John’s : dhufehj Edgecilmbdf was the scene of a wedding of considerable local interest when Mavis Jean, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. N. Magee, Edgecumbe, was married to Robert Frances, younger son of Mr and Mrs A. J. Duckworth of Pukehina. The Rev. Drake was the offciating minister.
The bride wore a lovely frock of heavy white georgette with square embroidered neck-line 1 and long, waisted effect. The ‘very full skirt fell away to form a sweeping train, and the long sleeves formed a pointover the hand. The beautifully embroidered veil was held to the head with a halo of pearls and formed a second train. A bouquet of white stock and maiden hair fern wascarried.
The three bridesmaids, Misses Iris Martin (neice of the bride), Janet Terry and Joyce Adams, made a striking picture. They were all frocked alike in gowns of figured white organdie with the long waistlines defined with scarlet sequins and with, sprays of scarlet sequins across the bodices. They wore flat little ruffled hats of the material of •
their frocks tipped oyer one, eye and secured with a single scarlet flower and ribbons, with streamers of scarlet veiling down their backs. They carried flat bouquets of scarlet camellias, gerbera and autumn tinted foliage. The bridegroom was attended by Messrs. O. Laurie, M. Magee and L. Perkins. ,*■ • After the ceremony the guests were received at the Edgecumbe Hall by Mr and Mrs Magee.. Mrs Magee wore a smart black frock with rust hat and coat and wore a shoulder spray in lemon and gold tonings. The bridegroom’s mother was in a black frock trimmed with white pleating, black hat and coat and wore a shoulder spray of cyclamen toned flowers. ' - : ; The wedding breakfast tables were nicely decorated with flowers as was the stage and at the bride’s table the beautifully decorated cake was the centre of attraction. The Rev. Drake was an excellent toastmaster and kept everyone in high good humour. Later the hall was cleared for dancing which continued until the early hours/ ; ■ The bride and groom left by car for a tour of the North Island, the bride wearing a charming frock of violet crepe with smart little black hat, black accessories and fawn coat to which was pinned a lovely spray of orchids.
