DROP IN JUNE

REHABILITATION LOANS LATEST FIGURES A drop of almost £400,000 from the record total of the previous month was shown in the loan authorisations made to ex-servicemen and women by the Rehabilitation Board during the month of June. The total for the month £1,457,452 made to 1511 applicants, which brought the number of loans authorised till the end of June to 31,177 at £23,107,262; and in turn brought the total amount authorised for re-habilitation-all purposes—to £31,280,903. Of those so far assisted with loans 28,515 have been servicemen returned from an overseas war theatres, 30 were returned servicewomen, 2285 were discharged home service personnel, 94 merchant seamen and 253 widows and dependants of deceased servicemen.

Loans For Housing -

Although considerably less than ing May, housing loans-(for purchase and building) were again substantial during June. .These numbered 456 for the month, valued at £550,270, bringing the total number authorised until the. end of the month to 9660 worth £10,990,899, including 5466 supplementary loans valued at £826,969. (These latter are meant to bridge the gap between pre-war values and present day costs). Sectionalised these were: Purchase, for June 251 (£257,750), to date 6274 (£6,279,964); building, for June 205 (£292,520), to date 386 (£4,710,935). There are also 5452 ex-servicemen and women who have obtained a State rental house tenancy under the 50 per cent, allocation scheme, there being 118 such allocated during June. Loans authorised to establish exservicemen on farms of 'their own number 168 for the month, to a value of £733,733, making the total number authorised until the end of June 2384 worth £8,878,090. Other figures shown in the mon-» thly statistical survey are: Business loans for June 164 (£103,823) to ■ date 3403 (£1,833,922); free-of-in-terest loans to purchase furniture, for month 700 (£65,007) to date 14,661 (£1,345,205); free-of-interest loans to purchase tools of trade, for June 16 (£604) to date 911 (£30,218); miscellaneous advances for June 7 (£4105) to date 158 (£28,929).
