The ‘Wanganui’ Hulk
The reason for the non-arival of the hulk of the oldtime coastal trad.-, er ‘Wanganui’ which was recently purchased by the Whakatane Harbour Board from the Northern Shipping Company for £SO, is that the vessel.-* which will be towed from Auckland draws up to nine feet. The Whakatane bar in its present condition would not.'.'accommodate the vessel which will not -be making the trip until- the spring tides. In his report to the Board last. Friday the engineer-'(Mr C. H. Brebner) stated that a suitable . place to deposit' the hulk yipuld^fee at the island’ where erosion' ,was beginning to take place. It s be usedjas, a groyne cheaply. and to good effect. “Do you think we migK£>berafale to make a swimming bath of ied Mr C. T. Smith amid laughter, whose thoughts were obviously on. the prayer of -the deputation from, the Borough Council.
