AWAKERI Y.F.C.

SUCCESSFUL FIELD DAY The Awakeri Young Farmers’ Club* held a very successful field day on the property of Mr A. C. Martin on July 25. In the morning Mr Neil Carter lectured on stock judging and Mr Barwell on pigs in the afternoon. Both speakers gave a very comprehensive talk on their respective subjects and were extremely instructive. —^ After giving in detail the good points of a cow, Mr Carter gave a few useful hints for judging a bull, also a novel way of tying a calf. In the 'afternoon, Mr Barwell showed a series of sketches describing the history of the pig from the time of the cave man until the present day. Following this he ran over the points to look for in pigs and the members judged Mr Martin’s boar. A very interesting day closed with afternoon tea kindly supplied by Mrs Martin.
