Harshly Treated The Hawke’s Bay owned Da Vinci was allotted 191bs more in the Winter Cup than the weight under which he finished third the previous year. Da Vinci was promptly withdrawn. Retired from the Turf Mr W. S. Goosman's Grey Salute, by Teio—Queen’s Salute, has been retired from the turf, as lately he has had attacks of bleeding. During his racing career he won in stakes over £3OOO. A good performer that is not to again grace the racecourse is the Hon. Elliott Davis’ and Mr O. Nicholson’s Monte Cristo, who has sprung a tendon. This son of Bronze Eagle won numerous races including the Thompson Handicap at Trentham, and has the distinction of having beaten Kindergarten at Avondale, just before the latter scored a fine succession of victories. Four Auckland Winners The North Island horses Swift Quarry, Air Port, Hunting Mac and Rival, all winners this season, are executing satisfactory work at Riccarton in view of the Grand National meeting. High Price for Colt The sum of 7200 guineas was paid at the Newmarket sale last week for the yearling colt Parra Station by Windsor Slipper from Tetraphylon.
