JERUSALEM Of all famous cities the most famed, So often lauded, yet so often shamed By those who ruled by hatred, bribery and fear, To dominate, to torture and to kill All who opposed the autocratic will That crucified Jewry’s Divine King, Who came, deliverance to bring, From the cruel intolerance of Rome; Whose policy was to divide and rule, and rule. “Crucify Him,” the mob was bribed to cry, His blood be on our heads and our posterity; Ne’er was a wish so completely fulfiled. Ne’er among men, was so much lifeblood spilled, And ne’er did tribulation harass and pursue A Nation. For nigh two thousand years, the Jew Has been persecuted and despised, His wealth and body deemed the lawful prize Of him who got it; be he ne’er so foul, Well might Jerusalem re-echo with the howl And wailing for a Kingdom lost. When the despised Nazarine gave up the ghost; The Kingdoms of the world may come and go, But Jerusalem will be the home of fear and woe, Until He who rose from Olivet Shall come, His avenging sword to whet Upon the persecuters of the Chosen Race, That will acknowledge Him, When He shall take His place, .
