EMPLOYMENT RETURNS
WAGES IN INDUSTRY
ROTORUA AND BAY OF PLENTY The Rotorua and Bay of Plenty District Office of the National Employment Service has now released district data relating to wages payments in the industries surveyed recently.
In supplying the information the District Employment Officer, Mr J. McGlone, drew attention to the fact that the averages were, on this occasion, affected to some extent by the inclusion of part-time workers, juveniles and working proprietors. Figures for Government Departments have been included throughout.
Manufacturing Industries (including engineering, motor trades, radio servicing etc.): £6621 per week was paid to 1045 males, an average weekly payment per head of £6 6s 9d; 218 females received between them £659 per week, or an average per head of £3 Os sd.
Building and Construction Industry: And certain primary industries such as mining and saWmilling. 3431 males received a total of £22,376 or an average weekly payment per head of £6 10s sd. 125 females received per head £3 15s Bd, a total of £473. Wholesale and Retail Trades, Finance, Insurance, etc.: 863 males employed. Total weekly payout £5717 10s. Average weekly wage per head £6 12s 6d. 546 females employed. Total weekly payout £1939. Average weekly wage per head £3 11s.
All other Industries and Services: 2086 males received a total of £14,451 or an average weekly wage per head of £6 18s 7d. 1781 females received a total of £7072 10s or an average weekly wage per head of £3 19s sd.
Overtime payments have not been included in any of the groups.
