POSSIBLE ACCIDENT CLAIMS

• COUNTY COUNCIL’S OPINION The question of possible claims arising from accidents due to cream stands situated on public roads was again before the Whakatane County Council on Tuesday. The State Fire and Accident Insurance Office gave further figures for a coverage of ,£SOOO/£2OOO. The premium was 10/- per cent on amount of policy—£2s plus £3 2s 6d per £IOOO of wages or part thereof. The County Clerk reported that the cost of the Council’s public risk cover would be between £6O to £7O per annum. This would be additional to the cream stand owners’ cover of 6d per stand, minimum premium ; £5, maximum £SO. The Council decided that the Rangitaiki Branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, which had first raised the point' be advised that the Council had adopted the recommendation re cream ’stands etc. of the Rangitaiki Branch of the Federated Farmers which recommendation was set out in a letter to the Union of 1/7/46, vi2.: “That this Branch of Federated Farmers of New Zealand Inc., considers that the painting white of all cream stands, rural boxes, and calfpens should absolve all owners and users of cream stands, rural boxes and calf-pens from any responsibility arising through any accident with such structures.”
