BAY RUGBY UNION

EXECUTIVE MEETS PILE CUP CONDITIONS An Executive meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union took place recently at Opotilci, delegates from the various sub-unions being present. The question of ex Apanui players playing for Opotiki was fully discussed.. The Apanui member considered that these men should be prevented from playing for Opotiki as they were simply working in the Opotiki district in order to play football for Opotiki. It was agreed however that in the face of Bay residential requirement rules, which were apparently being fulfilled, that nothing could be done. It was decided that the whole matter be forwarded to N.Z.R.U. Mr W. T. Burrett (Opotiki) was appointed to replace Mr G. Fisher whose notice of resignation from the position of Selector, through indifferent health was received. Shalfoon Shield

The executive decided that the minute from the annual meeting should have read: “Up to 18 years no weight limit. Eighteen years to 21 years weight limit of 12 stone. Any player becoming 21 years of age after May 4 is eligible to play.” This it was pointed out meant that players who are 21 years before May 4 are ineligible to play in Shalfoon matches. The weight applied on date of match. A recommendation from Rotorua that a 51b allowance be made was defeated.

Following a request from Waikato, it was decided that the forthcoming Waikato match be played at Hamilton on August 10 instead of August 17 as previously arranged. Pile Memorial Cup

A draft of proposed conditions to govern play for the Pile Memorial Cup was submitted by the secretary, and this, with several small alterations and additions was adopted. The draft read as under: —
