THE BOYS’ BRIGADE
PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMME The public will be interested to know that the recent collection carried out by the boys of the local Boys’ Brigade Company resulted in the sum of over £62 being raised. On Sunday, July 21 the Boys’ Brigade and Life Boys combined in a church parade, about 50 boys attending. The lads marched to the church to the tune of the pipes and drums played by members of the company. Another milestone in the company’s history was reached quite recently, when a number of interested men formed a committee to stand by the local company and to promote Battalion work throughout the Bay. The committee is fully representative of the Whakatane Churches and comprises the Rev’s. Drake, Bell, Attwood and Hogg— Messrs. C. F. Thomas, W. Hurst, H. Paterson, R. Chadwick, I. Suckling, F. Darvill, V. Kingdon, the Company Officers (Te Hira Fergusson, J. Henderson and R. Abbott) and also the Life Boy leaders (Mr Aitken Miss A. Hogg and Miss S. Kenyon). Mr C. F. Thomas was appointed Chairman and Mr Te Hira Fergusson Hon. Secretary.
